DURASKIRT™ Installation
Before starting your DURASKIRT™ installation, please review the following helpful advice. (This does not cover the full installation procedures, which can be found in our installation manual.)
What is the estimated installation time for DURASKIRT™?
Installing DURASKIRT™ mobile home underpinning may take one person around 9 hours to three 7-hour days. With two people, it can be done in 4.5 to 10.5 hours depending on home size and conditions.
Rule of thumb for estimating installation time:
To estimate, the time of the installation of one panel and multiply by the total number of panels. For instance, if your home needs 60 panels, and it takes 5 minutes to install each, then 5 minutes x 60 panels ÷ 60 minutes/hour = 5 hours.
If your mobile home skirting installation takes longer, don’t worry. Some complete it in under three hours, which is very fast. Most homeowners take about twice as long, especially if the site isn’t well-prepared.
Remember the five P’s?
The saying “Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance” is key. If you’re unfamiliar with the five P’s, it’s important to learn and adopt them. Before preparing, understand the concept of installation times.
Install Time Regarding Existing Homes
The installation time for mobile home skirting varies depending on the home. Typically, removing existing skirting takes 3–8 hours. After removal, inspect for rot at the attachment points and replace any decayed wood. Once preparations are complete, installing DURASKIRT™ panels ranges from 3 to 7 minutes each, based on skill and site conditions. A single person could finish in one 9-hour day or spread over three 7-hour days. With two people, installation might take as little as 4 1/2 hours or up to 10 1/2 hours.
Wet Conditions
For wet soil conditions, laying gravel or reaching drier soil is necessary before setting down the DURASKIRT™ fabric.
1″ to a 1 1/2″ gap from the top of the skirting panel to give good ventilation.

Helpful Hint: Another use for your shovel.
Mark your shovel handle at 31″.
Grade the site and mark a 31″ point on your shovel handle or a stick. Use the shovel as it is handy. Ensure the site is level, with a 31″ distance from the rim-joist to the ground for skirting panels. Panels should have a 1″ to 1-1/2″ clearance from the ground.
Is it necessary to insulate mobile home skirting?
In northern regions, older homes typically have minimal insulation. It is recommended to prioritize insulating the floors over the skirting. Insulation of wood or vinyl skirting can be done, provided that adequate ventilation is maintained in the area. Modern constructions are generally well-insulated.
