Mobile Home Foundation Upgrades. Why Use PSC’s for E.R.B.S. (Earthquake Resistant Bracing System)?
This system is a wonderful mobile home upgrade. Manufactured home ideas wouldn’t be complete without presenting the benefits of the Primary Support Columns. So, what are PSC’s or E.R.B.S, and why are they essential? Support columns are positioned according to a manufacturer’s installation specification to optimize foundation performance.
Each PSC unit is set to resist multiple hazards. The PSC spacing is derived from the homes’ size, weight, and configuration. For double-wide mobile homes, the PSC’s are spaced so that 12 support columns are required. The columns components:
- Precast concrete Footing. Precast reinforced (11 feet of the steel reinforcing bar), high strength (3,000+ psi test concrete), lightweight (110 pounds), 24″ by 38″ footprint. Delivered fully cured (tested to >200,000 pounds), ready for immediate use.
- Heavy-Duty Steel Support. High strength (tested to >35,000 pounds), attached to the footing, single-bolt coarse adjustments (2″ increments). Four base heights allow the PSC to accommodate a wide range of foundation heights.
- Substantial Steel I-Beam Clamp. Patented Technology. Integral part of the stand, high strength (tested to >35,000 pounds), load-bearing and leveling, infinite position fine adjustment (3″), very easy single-bolt adjustment, large load-bearing area, solidly bolted to the I-beam, high strength I-beam attachment mechanism is designed to accommodate different size I-beam flanges while not requiring any holes in the I-beam, bolts welded to the attachment mechanism for ease of installation with an impact wrench, adjustable while bearing the full weight of the manufactured home.
For 24-inch Frost Depth Zones. The standard PSC fully complies with frost depth requirements where frost depth is 42 inches or less. More than 85% of the total U.S. manufactured housing marketplace to date is in areas where frost depth is 42 inches or less.
So you see! You’ll be much safer with PCS’ in place.
Why do Manufactured Homes Need Tie-Downs?
Because wind blowing over the roof creates a wing-lift action and the homes can blow over without tie-downs.
What Makes A Manufactured Home Different?
Like a commercial building, manufactured/mobile homes are constructed using structural steel. The steel is secured to the wood joists and plywood flooring so they can be safely transported on the roadways. Once delivered and set up the homes need tie-downs secured to the structural steel to the earth. And, if you need assistance we offer help finding a tie-down pro or professional too.
There are various ways to accomplish this and one is the use of tie-downs, tie-downs are typically used because of their relatively cheap cost. Although there are far better methods like full earthquake bracing systems.
Concrete Skirting, Naturally Fire-Resistant, Is the Manufactured home Idea of The Future
Gone are the days when aluminum was the only choice for mobile home skirting. Now you can get everything you need in a new concrete solution for your mobile home. DURASKIRT™ is one of the most effective ways to skirt your home whether it is manufactured home skirting, deck skirting, post and beam skirting, or mobile home skirting. This skirting is made of high strength concrete that is cast over a galvanized welded wire.
Concrete skirting, naturally fire-resistant, is one of the strongest skirting options on the market making it excellent for all types of homes. While it is strong and can hold up against most weather and can hold more weight if necessary than other skirting types such as aluminum, it is still relatively lightweight enough to be useful and to produce great protection for your home. Installation is not a difficult process and can be done in a short amount of time.
One of the major additions to the DURASKIRT™ system is the “Hidden-Vent.” This is a superior way to ventilate a crawlspace. The Hidden-Vent is tucked away under the edge of the home and at the top of the skirting. The ventilation allows the air to flow through under the house making sure that there is no build-up of dampness or any musty air trapped under the floorboards of your home.
Features of the Hidden-Vent include helping to provide your family with healthier air quality in your home. What’s more, is the air venting system is set up to be hidden under the edge of the home. Why is this a good idea? Because of its small opening, it’s highly unlikely that animals make a home under your home.
